Lathe Machine
Lathe Machine is known as the "Mother of all Machine Tools". It plays fundamental role in producing symmetrical forms i.e. shapes from materials like various metal , wood , plastic through operations such as cutting , drilling , facing and sanding.
A Lathe is machine tool that rotates a workpiece about an axis of rotation to perform various operations on it.
Following Common Operations can be carried out on Lathe Machine.
Turning: Reducing the diameter of the workpiece.
Facing: Creating a flat surface on the end of the workpiece.
Drilling: Creating holes in the center of the workpiece.
Knurling: Creating a pattern of ridges on the workpiece.
Thread Cutting: Creating helical grooves on the workpiece.
Key Components of Lathe Machine :
Bed: The base of the machine, providing a stable structure.
Headstock: Houses the spindle and the mechanism for rotating the workpiece.
Tailstock: Supports the opposite end of the workpiece and can hold tools for operations like drilling.
Carriage: Moves along the bed to support and control the cutting tool.
